What Do I Have to Do to Get Ready For A Flooring Installation?

Homeowners are always excited about their new flooring and can sometimes be overwhelmed about preparing form installation.  There’s definitely some work and effort required on the homeowners part to prepare the room(s).  Don’t worry, though – we’ll do all the heavy lifting!  For decades, we’ve tried to help people see the bright side of their efforts… you’ll finally clean out the “stuff” that’s accumulated for years and have a beautiful new room.  Following are a few notes about preparing for installation – we hope you find it useful:

Ample preparation is the key to a smooth flooring installation.

  • Your installation will be scheduled in advance at a time that’s convenient for you.

  • The technicians will move large furniture pieces such as couches, tables, and bookshelves. However, you need to make sure that these furniture pieces are cleared of books, knick-knacks, and other “small stuff” prior to your appointment. You should also take the time to remove any bedding from your mattress if the installation is going to occur in a bedroom.

  • Anything of value such as electronics, antiques, and other prized possessions should be removed from the installation site so that they’re not damaged. You should also take any hanging pictures off the wall.

  • What about our furry friends? If you have any pets, you should make sure that they are properly secured in a room, crate or away from the home entirely. Flooring installations can be loud at times and messy.  Pets may be disturbed by this.  Additionally, some “runners” will see an open door and go for it – if this sounds like your pet, we recommend leaving them with a friend or relative.

  • If you have any closets in the installation area, please make sure that the floors are clear. Any items left hanging should be about 2-3 feet off of the ground.

  • Painting? Decide if it’s best to paint before OR after the carpet or flooring is installed.  We’ll be maneuvering through your home with large boxes, very long rolls of carpet and/or other equipment. We try hard to avoid all walls, but the potential for some dings and dents always exists.

At The Vertical Connection Carpet One in Olney and Columbia, we are offer flooring installations to the area of Ellicott City, MD.
